Chris’ love of writing music came from a childhood spent working out the changes to jazz standards and wondering how and why it all worked. His first extended work at age 17 was the musical ‘Love Rats: A Bubonic Play’, co-written with Ross Churchill (Pariis Opera House/Hyper Lion).
After completing his BA in music he went on to study composition at Trinity College of Music, where he was taught by Andrew Poppy. During this period his pieces received performances at St. Lawrence Jewry and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre.
Since leaving college live performance has been the main focus, however commissions have included ‘Bite Back’ for Brighton Music For Kids/Radio Free Brighton, a cautionary tale for children’s choir (addressed to their parents!) about the dangers posed by loan sharks; and incidental music for ‘The Headonists’, a production by Hove-based theatre company ID Parade.
